I am
writing this to share with you about my journey in my collage, Parahyangan
Catholic University, Bandung
I am
Vin Cent, majoring in Accounting 2008 Intake. Actually it was a bit hard for me
for the first time to adapt with the UNPAR environment since I came from other
island. The first semester GPA was so bad. I felt so depresed but on the second
semester I tried to move on and improve. My GPA got better than the first
semester, improved and stabled semester by semester.
Short
story, I began to build again my college portfolio. I started as part of
Accounting Student Association as Head of National Seminar in 2009. It’s a good
start to have a good soft skill in leadership. Not stop till there, I was trusted
also as Event Coordinator in Workshop I & II, Publication and Documentation
Coordinator for Stock Exchange Simulation, Mentor for Economic New Students
Orientation in 2009 & 2010, etc. My leadership was hone sharply.
After
the second year filled with organization experiences, on the third year I moved
on to the competitions. The first competition I participated was Nutrifood
Leaders Awards. I passed the selection until the last part ( FGD with the
Nutrifood CEO directly – Mr. Mardi Wu and interviewed with the Human Resources)
and unfortunely I didn’t pass it. First thing I got from this experience was I
met with other great friends from other universities and we made friends till
now. There were very awesome! From this point, I started to hunt other
competition. I do love competitions about leadership and business (The most
important point is I can make networking with other friends!). The next one was
Protect Gamble ASEAN Business Challenge and I also failed on the interview step
with the Human Resources, but I learned more about the trick of the interview.
Then, I also tried UNPAR for Harvard National Model United Nations and I failed
on the second stage (presentation stage). There were many failures during those
steps but I never gave up, but after that so many great blessed I got.
Started
from Audit Integration which was held by KPMG Indonesia. Only lucky (red :
smart) 16 students were selected to join the class. It was really very VIP
class from KPMG Indonesia cooperate together with Accounting Department. We
learned depth-into about audit and the each fields. After That I participated
In DREaM 2010, the summer program from International Office of UGM, continued
with International Conference “Regional Youth Leader Conference” by Binus
International. Next, I tried Astra 1st program (Astra Workshop Program –
previous program) and I was luckly elected as one of the 80 best students from
the best universities in Indonesia. I also participated in Astra Credit Company
Syneargear Competition (UNPAR regional) and my team got the first runner-up
winner. Then I was accepted as vocational employee (red : interns) at
Pricewaterhouse Coopers Indonesia in Energy Utilities and Mining Division (the
best division ever in PwC Indonesia). The great one also I was selected as one
of the delegate from UNPAR represent the Harvard National Model United Nations
2012 in UNCTAD committe. The last but not least, I was elected as the
participant of Danamon Youth Leader Award 2011 and my team got the first
winner. Those were great blessing for me, really very amazing and awesome. I
couldn’t still believe I had come so far. It’s a never ending progress to keep
trying and trying.
In
2012 again, after backed from HNMUN 2012. I applied as interns at Accenture
Indonesia and I was accepted in SAP implemention in Change Management Division.
After the internship program finished, soon I participated in Biz Camp
(Business Plan Competition) which was held by Prasteya Mulya Business School
and my team got the best team and best presentation for our business plan. My
self, I got the second runner-up and partial scholarship from Prasetya Mulya
for my MBA graduate program. Recently, the last program I joined was Unilever
leadership Actions on Sustainability; it was a social project competition how
we as youth generation help to keep our nation (scope : Jabodetabek) more
sustainable and now still keep on going until the last of September 2012.
That’s
my story (journey) in Accounting, Parahyangan Catholic University. So, just
small tips for you :
For
the first year : adapt quickly with your new college environment and keep your
GPA as high as possible because the higher year in college, the harder you get
good GPA. Don’t forget to involve in student organization as staff and new friend with others
For
the second year : involve more in student organization as chief executive,
coordinator, or mentor to hone your leadership and soft skill. Get more
information about the competition, international program, and exchange that you
are going to participate and prepare yourself more.
For
the third year : Keep participating in the competition, international program,
and exchange. Begin to think where are you going to work after graduate. Get
more information about the company, the work load and environment, and benefit
also from website, campus recruitment, or even from your senior. Don’t forget
to apply internship during the short semester.
For
the fourth year : Focus on your last thesis and graduate soon from the college.
Hope
It can help you to survive in the college.:)
Best
